Supports nerve health and function in pets with injuries or neurological disorders.
One of our most inspiring acupuncture cases is Morticia, a five-month-old kitten who came to EAH after a fox attack. Morticia had extensive wounds on her back that damaged her spinal nerves. She could barely move her hind limbs, especially her left leg, and had little to no feeling in her back legs.
She was initially treated with antibiotics and pain medications, and we added weekly acupuncture sessions to support her recovery. Each session included a 25-minute needle placement, often with Vitamin B12 injections at specific acupoints to enhance the effects.
After just two treatments, Morticia began showing signs of feeling and movement. Her right leg returned almost completely to normal. While her left leg is still a bit stiff, she continues to improve each week. Her playful energy is back, and her mom, Anne Morrissey, couldn’t be happier.
Dr. Melissa Reidy, a long-time emergency veterinarian at EAH, began her journey in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine in 2021. She completed her acupuncture training through Chi University, one of the premier institutions for veterinary integrative medicine.
Since then, Dr. Reidy has pursued further studies in herbal therapy and food therapy, expanding her ability to offer natural, holistic options for common veterinary conditions. She is passionate about integrating TCVM with conventional care to provide a full spectrum of healing for her patients.
No—most pets tolerate acupuncture very well, and many relax during treatment.
This depends on your pet’s condition. Some improve within a few sessions, while chronic conditions may require ongoing care.
Whether your pet is recovering from an injury, managing a chronic condition, or you’re simply looking for a gentle, holistic approach to wellness, acupuncture could be the perfect addition to their care.
